Bulgaria

Focus on property in Bulgaria

At Essential Investment Property we believe that since Bulgaria’s membership into the EU earlier this year, a property investment hotspot has now emerged.

Bulgaria is situated in Southeastern Europe and occupies the northeastern part of the Balkan Peninsula. The picturesque Black Sea coastline, which stretches 378km, is already a popular destination for tourists, especially around Varna which is bustling tourist centre.

Almost half of Bulgaria is made up of mountains and the Rhodope, Rila and Pirin mountain ranges offer superb ski resorts between October and March.  The area of Bansko is proving to be increasingly popular with British ski enthusiasts. In the summer the mountain areas offer outdoor pursuits such as hiking, fishing and canoeing.

Bulgaria’s Black Sea Coast has a Mediterranean climate with summers averaging in the low 30Cs. However, the winters are cold with plenty of snowfall, especially in the mountain regions. Bulgaria is also renowned for over 1500 natural hot mineral water springs which are attracting health tourism.

Bulgaria’s coloured history has resulted in a country rich in ancient monuments, diverse architecture and artifacts. The Romans, Slavs, Greeks and Turks have all left their mark and heritage, resulting in numerous monasteries, churches and mosques.

The country is a mixture of quiet rural scenery and villages which seem to have been trapped in a time warp, to the modern bustling cities and their growing business activity.

The capital, Sofia is made up of such diverse architecture, reflecting its history – from the stunning 20th century Alexander Nevsky Cathedral to the post World War II socialist block housing. However, nestled amongst the side streets are tree-lined boulevards and balconied buildings by 19thC Russian and Viennese architects.  Street life is important in Sofia with open-air cafes, huge markets selling locally grown produce, gypsies selling flowers on street corners and folk musicians serenading passers-by.

Having shaken off its Communist ties, Bulgaria is now emerging as a hot destination for investors and, compared to more traditional Mediterranean destinations, prices for food, drink and property in Bulgaria are an absolute bargain.
